Our vision is that our team will not only engage in their work doing something significant, but also in making the world a better place.
As entrepreneurs, we seek opportunities to employ our talents in solving natural resource management challenges. Every day, we help clients find the balance between social, environmental, and economic challenges, rleading tobetter outcomes for aeveryone
We are also very passionate about supporting the next generation of environmental professionals. We do this by making monetary donations and participating in student mentorship opportunities. We are actively involved in supporting the University of Alberta's Forestry Society and ECSA Students’ Society, as well as students in the NAIT Forest Technology program.
To address needs at the local and global level, our approach to "giving back" involves both charitable giving and direct involvement in our local community.
Three core objectives guide our philanthropic efforts
We believe that charitable giving is an investment in children, youth and their communities. We have created a strategy focused on improving the lives of young people in need, at home and globally.

Promote Educational Opportunities
Classrooms for Africa
In 2008, one of our founding partners, Bob Morton, helped start Classrooms for Africa. This charitable society provides direct assistance to communities in sub-Saharan Africa seeking to educate disadvantaged children.
Since 2008, Silvacom has directly funded over 40 school projects in Africa, including the building of classroom blocks, dormitories and kitchens.
Annually, representatives from Silvacom (including staff members selected through an application and vetting process) travel to Africa to visit Silvacom-funded projects and report back to the whole team.
Throughout the year, we host various fundraisers to purchase desks for these schools. Past fundraisers include pig roasts, matching donation drives, and an initiative in which our CEO, Tom Grabowski, shaved off his 40-year-old moustache!
We volunteer our time to support communications activities, such as creating the annual Classrooms for Africa report, and we also contribute to fundraising and partner with other like-minded businesses to extend the organization's reach and effectiveness throughout sub-Saharan Africa.

Giving Back to our Local Community
Making a Difference in Canada
We support an increasing number of local and national causes in many different ways. These include the United Way, Canadian Blood Services,Stars Alberta, the MS Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Mental Health Association, Ronald McDonald House, the Alzheimer's Association, Children's Miracle Network, Compassion Canada, Plan Canada, and more.
Growing the Urban Forest
We are a longtime supporter of 'Root for Trees' - Edmonton's tree planting initiative. Each year, a group of volunteers from Silvacom participates in the program by heading out to plant trees around the city of Edmonton. As a company heavily involved in the forest industry, we are very passionate about helping to grow our local urban forest.
In-house Donation Drives
One way we like to give back is by having in-house donation drives to support local and worthy causes. Examples include summer BBQs with an entry' fee' of a food bank donation, winter coat drives for 'Coats for Kids and Families', toy drives for Santa's Anonymous, baby formula drives for the Bissell Centre, and toiletry drives for the Wings of Providence Second Stage Shelter.
We find the best and keep the best, so our clients always get the best!
