The Role:
This entry level position will be part of our Energy & Environment Project Management Team. The selected individual will provide guidance and sound business analyst skills to assist Silvacom in serving resource companies, government agencies and other various stakeholders. Duties may include business process management, gathering business requirements of customers, documenting and analyzing information and data, implementing project plans, implementing and monitoring work break down structures, monitoring status and progress against planned objectives, and various other analytical tasks related to the resource industry. The goal for this individual is to progress towards becoming a project manager.
Skills & Experience Required:
- An undergraduate degree in business, forestry, environmental science, ecology, environmental planning or related field.
- Initiative and creativity when approaching challenges.
- Project management techniques and skills in a business environment.
- Ability to acquire and evaluate information gathered through workshops and surveys, business process descriptions and task analysis.

Junior Systems Administrator
Job Description:
- Manage desktop and laptop computers throughout their lifecycle.
- Manage and support mobile devices including BlackBerry, iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.
- Manage regular system backups and offsite media vaulting.
- Front-line Help Desk support.
- Hardware and software problem diagnosis and repair for desktops and workstations.
- Maintain IT internal and end-user documentation.
- Deploy software updates to desktop and laptop computers.
- Possibilities for advancement include setting up, managing, and maintaining:
- VMware vSphere infrastructure
- Windows servers, including SharePoint
- Windows Active Directory domain and Microsoft Exchange
- Network infrastructure and firewalls
- Occasional evening and weekend work is required to respond to critical failures or to perform scheduled maintenance outside office hours.
Qualifications:
Training or experience with setting up, managing, and maintaining:
- Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003, and/or Windows Server 2008 R2
- Office 2007 or Office 2010
- Exchange 2007 or Exchange 2010
- IT-related post-secondary education preferred.
- Training or experience with SharePoint 2010, VMware vSphere (ESXi), ESRI ArcGIS products, Linux, or Solaris would be an asset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Photo Interpreter
The Role:
Silvacom is an established leading-edge, high-tech consulting firm to government and the natural resources sector. We are currently seeking a highly motivated, results-oriented and experienced certified photo interpreter to add to our Remote Sensing team. The selected individual will contribute their expertise in the interpretation of vegetation and surface features to meet the needs of resource companies and government agencies. Interpretation activities may include Alberta Forest Vegetation Inventory, Saskatchewan Forest Vegetation Inventory, cutblock updates, conifer understorey inventory, cutblock RSA stratification, GVI, PLVI, etc.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Is a level 2 certified photo interpreter
- Has extensive experience in various types of remote sensing techniques
- Has worked on a wide range of photo interpretation projects (AVI, RSA stratification, GVI, PLVI, cutblock updates, conifer understorey inventories, etc)
- Has a servant attitude when working with clients
- Has high attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Is proficient at photo interpretation
- Applies initiative and creativity when approaching challenges
- Develops strategies to ensure production levels and quality standards are met
- Has experience developing and managing contracts for image acquisition, and quality assurance
- Has the ability to estimates manpower, resources and equipment required to acquire and interpret air photos
- Is able to communicate effectively within a team and with clients
- Self-motivated, can also work independently without constant supervision
- Takes an active interest in the company
- Welcomes being challenged and pushed professionally
Required Experience:
- Minimum 5 years experience as a certified photo interpreter
- Experience with 3D visualization software (PurView and or DAT/EM) used for completing softcopy interpretation
- Has the ability and knowledge to independently set up all aspects of a softcopy project in PurView and or DAT/EM
- Has experience with ArcGIS software and working with geodatabase files
- Has a working knowledge of photo cameras and imagery acquisition techniques (traditional photo based imagery, digital imagery, satellite imagery, etc)
- Experience with quality control methods for photo interpretation
- Proficient using MS Office applications
- Has a technical diploma or undergraduate degree in a natural resource field

Web Application Developer
The Role:
As part of The Silvacom Group’s Technology Development Team, the selected individual may be involved in software design, Internet application development and database design. The team is responsible for application development, maintenance and support for an online suite of applications for the natural resource industries and government sectors. Most applications are Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) and incorporate geospatial technology.

Required Experience:
- Post-secondary education in IT related field is required.
- Minimum 5 years web development experience using Java/JSP, Tomcat, Struts, Spring and Hibernate. Candidates with less experience may be considered for a junior position.
- Experience with RIA development with Adobe Flex (MXML and ActionScript) is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of open web technologies: HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX and Web Services.
- Knowledge and experience creating web-enabled geospatial applications using GIS technologies by Esri such as ArcGIS for Server, ArcGIS Web Mapping APIs, and Python scripting is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of mobile development (e.g. iOS, Android, BlackBerry) is desirable.
- Experience with Microsoft web development platform .NET/C#/Silverlight is desirable.
- Experience with multiple integrated development environments such as Eclipse and Visual Studio.
- Knowledge of RDBMS, preferably Oracle and proficiency with PL/SQL.
- Understanding of XML and related technologies (XSLT, XPath and XQuery).
- Experience working with and developing Content Management Systems (CMS).
- Experience with version control software such as CVS and Subversion.
- Experience with building user interfaces for customer facing applications.
- Experience with engineering web applications for high volume and high availability.
- Experience with automated build and testing processes.
- Experience in functional and QA testing methodologies.
- Linux/Windows web application server administration experience.
