EDMONTON, AB, March 22, 2017 – Silvacom has officially been named one of Alberta’s Top 70 Employers for 2017. This award recognizes the Alberta employers that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work. Winners were announced today in a special editorial magazine published in the Edmonton Journal and Calgary Herald and online at edmontonjournal.com and calgaryherald.com.
“Being named one of Alberta’s Top Employers is a wonderful honour and confirms what all of us at Silvacom already know to be true – that we have a great organization with talented and dedicated people who are excited by the challenging opportunities we provide,” said Tom Grabowski, Silvacom’s President, and CEO. “We recognize that our team members’ unique talents and strengths are key to our success, this award is for them.”
The judges offered several reasons for selecting Silvacom, including:
- Commitment to charitable giving, at home and in Africa;
- Professional development and in-house training opportunities;
- Matching RSP contributions and new employee referral bonuses;
- Great selection of events for staff and their families; and
- Enhanced health and wellness-related benefits.
“As a team, we are thrilled to have been named one of Alberta’s Top 70 employers,” says Rick Reid, Vice President of Operations with Silvacom. “We’ve learned over the years that you can’t make people work for you; you have to create an environment where they want to work with you. That’s what we try to do every day.”
This is the 12th edition of the annual Alberta’s Top Employers editorial competition, recognizing Alberta-based employers with the most forward-thinking programs that lead their respective industries by offering exceptional places to work. The competition is based on a national review conducted by Mediacorp Canada Inc. Employers are evaluated on eight criteria: Physical Workplace; Work Atmosphere & Social; Health, Financial & Family Benefits; Vacation & Time Off; Employee Communications; Performance Management; Training & Skills Development; and Community Involvement. Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offers the most progressive and forward-thinking programs. The 70 workplaces were not ranked in any order.
Richard Yerema, Managing Editor of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project, which manages the competition says, “it’s easy to become distracted by daily oil prices and similar news, but when you look at this year’s winners you see how deep the province’s economy runs and the range of employers that are showing leadership in these challenging economic conditions.”
