Silvacom has a trusted name for timber supply analysis in the forest industry. Data is our core business™, and getting the data right is a big part of timber supply analysis. Whether it’s net land base determination, yield curve construction, annual allowable cut calculations or preparing documentation for forest management plans – we do it all, and we do it right!

WHAT WE OFFER

Silvacom takes a “scientific methods” approach to timber supply analysis. Our TSA team ensures due diligence through the following process:

  • Defining management objectives and policy constraints
  • Assembling the forest inventory and yield curve data
  • Executing mathematical models to test policy assumptions and constraints
  • Interpreting the results and liaising with regulatory agencies
  • Providing recommendations

We use several quantitative models to bracket the AAC solution. Long run sustained yield average (LRSYA) and area volume check procedures are used to provide initial estimates for input into Silvacom’s own SILVASYM model, or Remsoft’s Woodstock™, Stanley™ and Spatial Woodstock™ programs.

SILVASYM is our flagship AAC model. It’s an industrial strength spatial simulator that provides unprecedented power and flexibility. SILVASYM runs on our high-end HP™ UNIX® servers. With virtually unlimited computing power, we’ve successfully modeled spatial harvest sequences for millions of forest stands covering over 45,000 km2 (over 17,000 square miles)! Using spatial Oracle® databases and GIS technology, SILVASYM tracks (harvests, regenerates and grows) individual stands throughout entire planning horizons. Spatial adjacency and operational constraints can be imposed on any polygon, at any time. Direct links to GIS provide snapshot databases and maps which depict future forest conditions for any period. SILVASYM will handle an unlimited number of yield curves and land base data sets.

Classic Woodstock™, Stanley™ and Spatial Woodstock™ modules are also part of our AAC toolbox. We use Woodstock™ as a linear programming model or simulator for “stand alone” AAC estimates, or to provide an independent validation of SILVASYM results.
