  GIS Specialist / Image Analyst

  The Silvacom Group™ is a full spectrum consultancy with over 27 years of experience in the natural resource industry. We are currently seeking a highly motivated, results oriented, self starting individual to add to our GIS team.
  

  Description:

  As part of our GIS Team, the successful candidate may be involved in digital image analysis, spatial data management, analysis, cartography, scripting, applications development and quality control using multiple software packages including ESRI, PCI Geomatica and Open Source GIS software on both Windows and UNIX platforms.  The team is responsible for creation, development, support and maintenance of geographic information systems and image analysis platforms primarily in the natural resource industries and various government sectors.  The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of geospatial and digital image technologies and will work with our GIS team to provide support and solutions on a variety of projects.

  Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of practical experience with (an) image analysis platform(s), as well as ArcGIS and Workstation ArcInfo.
  • Post-secondary education in GIS or Natural Resources.
  • Knowledge of airborne and satellite image theory, processing and analysis is essential.
  • Experience with PCI Geomatica is an asset.
  • Experience with LiDAR is an asset.
  • Experience with ArcGIS extensions and ArcGIS Server is an asset.
  • Experience with ArcObjects, Python and AML is an asset.
  • Experience with CAD software is an asset.
  • Experience with 3D Visualization software (e.g.: World Construction Set, Visual Nature Studio) is an asset.

  The Role:
  As part of The Silvacom Group’s Technology Development Team, the selected individual may be involved in software design, Internet application development and database design. The team is responsible for application development, maintenance and support for an online suite of applications for the natural resource industries and government sectors. Most applications are Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) and incorporate geospatial technology

  Required Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years web development experience using Java/JSP, Tomcat, Struts, Spring and Hibernate.
  • Experience with RIA development with Adobe Flex is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Microsoft web development platform .NET/C#/Silverlight is desirable.
  • Experience with multiple integrated development environments such as Eclipse and Visual Studio.
  • Knowledge and experience creating web-enabled geospatial applications using GIS technologies by ESRI such as ArcGIS Server, ArcIMS, and ArcObjects is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of RDBMS, preferably Oracle and proficiency with SQL.
  • Strong knowledge of front end web technologies: XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX and Web Services.
  • Understanding of XML and related technologies (XSLT, XPath and XQuery).
  • Experience working with and developing Content Management Systems (CMS) such as Alfresco.
  • Experience with building user interfaces for customer facing applications.
  • Experience with engineering web applications for high volume and high availability.
  • Experience with version control software such as CVS and Subversion.
  • Experience with automated build and testing processes.
  • Experience in functional and QA testing methodologies.
  • Linux/Windows web application server administration experience.

  • Post-secondary education in IT related field is required.
